Learn About Cullman

German Roots, Southern Welcome

Cullman is a welcoming North Alabama community of about 20,000 residents, known for its German influence, walkable downtown, lively festivals, scenic lakes, and genuine small-town warmth. Conveniently located along Interstate 65, Cullman sits between Birmingham and Huntsville, making it an easy and rewarding stop from across the Southeast.

A Heritage Still Celebrated

Cullman’s story begins in 1873 with German immigrant Colonel Johann Gottfried Cullmann, who imagined a town built on hard work, faith, and a shared sense of belonging. That heritage still lives on today, woven into traditions and festivals like Oktoberfest and the Christkindlmarkt, and into the welcoming spirit visitors feel throughout the community. Cullman also shares a proud sister-city bond with Frankweiler, Germany, honoring its roots and keeping those connections alive across generations.
